Once again, it was a brilliant holiday, spending all day, every day on the slopes, catching up with old friends, and having my youngest son, Andy, join us.
We originally left home with the promise of heavy snow and warnings of potential difficulties reaching the resort. Fortunately, the transfer couldn't have been easier; we arrived on time with a fantastic week of snow conditions ahead of us.
Our hotel was in a perfect location and offered value for money. Serving up typical mid-range accommodation and food, it provided an ideal base for the week, and the evenings were thoroughly enjoyable in the company of good friends.
Out on the mountain, the conditions were near-perfect for the late season. We enjoyed fresh snow on arrival, four gloriously sunny days and just two with flat light, meaning we didn't miss a single minute of skiing. Our days, led brilliantly by Dave Hodgkinson, were absolutely superb. We were on the lifts by 9:00 am and didn't finish until around 4:30 pm, pausing only for very welcome coffee and lunch stops sitting outside admiring the incredible views and sun.
Over the course of the week, we managed to cover most of the runs in what is undoubtedly one of the best ski areas in the world. My good friend John Hodgkinson was out skiing every day too, and kindly stepped up to lead a small group for the final couple of days.
Sadly, the trip was marred by a longer-than-usual list of injuries, two of which were serious. It was a real shame, and we wish everyone affected a very speedy recovery.
Overall, it was a brilliant week in Tignes, and we are all eagerly looking forward to Cervinia next January!
