British Association of Ski Instructors training

Reporter:Fionna Ogden

My Name is Fiona Ogden. I have been a member of Manchester ski club for over 10 years.

I recently completed My BASI Level 1 ski Instructor course at The Snow Centre in Manchester.

This is a 4 day training and assessment course, with online learning.

This qualification is ideal for those wishing to find employment in a UK Snowsports Centre.

Level 1 qualified instructors may work within a controlled environment in a UK snowsports centre or in a mountain environment within a recognised Snowsports school, under the direct supervision of a BASI L2 qualified instructor (equivalent or higher).

It was an intense week. There was a group of 8 on the course, age range 16–52. It was both physically and mentally challenging but so enjoyable and rewarding.

Along with the course I had to complete a 2 day outdoor first aid course, a safeguarding online course, an enhanced DBS check and 35hrs instructor training.

It’s been a lot of work, but I have now been successful with a part time Ski Instructor role at The Snow Centre for the winter season.

Going forward I am hoping to complete My Adaptive Ski Level 1 instructor and hopefully Ski level 2 instructor (if I can get to grips with Moguls.)

I would highly recommend the level 1 course for anyone who would like a rewarding challenge or just some fun personal development.
