Part 1

We met on 25th November for pre-drinks at the Oxnoble, although the hard core of the club members met for pre-pre-drinks in the Mr.Thomas’s Chop Shop just off Deansgate. After quaffing a few ales whilst we watched the utter garbage being produced by England against the USA we moved swiftly to Akbar’s for our meal to avoid disappointment.
Akbar’s is opposite the Manchester Museum for Science and Industry, it was easy to travel to and from via train, bus, car or tram. Having visited Akbar’s frequently I knew that a good curry was to be had, we opted for the set menu which was £25 and the starters that came out were amazing and very tasty not to mention the excessively large nan bread which was clearly a showstopper for the restaurant.

Ruth and I put pressure on Tony to write his report. His reply was “Only if England win” He did relent though, (see above). But here’s my effort anyway.
Some of us met in the Oxnoble Pub, conveniently situated just a short distance from the restaurant. The pub was packed and very noisy. Conversation focused mostly on the match… I believe.
Arriving at Ackbar’s at 7.30pm we found our group gathered near the bar and without delay we were shown to our table.
Full marks to Ackbar’s for the Indian cuisine. The starters were a meal in themselves and the main course included tasty options for all, especially for those with dietary requirements. We had plenty of news to share, and the background noise didn’t stop us one bit!
It has to be mentioned again, the nan bread hanging out to dry was the focal point, but it was curtains for Tony as he tried to dodge around them. Everyone enjoyed the meal as nothing was left except empty plates! Eventually it was time to leave. There was no delay paying as we’d settled up beforehand.
At 9.30pm it was time to leave. Ian Mates escorted the girls to the station. What a gentleman! We gratefully accepted, and off we went, with a route finding query from me. Women are usually right… aren’t they?
All in all, it was an excellent night out. Well done Tosh for organising it all.
