Miller and Carter in Wilmslow was this year’s venue. Steaks are their speciality, but we all agreed that the Christmas menu was excellent. Although the restaurants’ location was perhaps out of the way for some of us, it didn’t deter members, because there was an excellent turnout.
We met at the Alchemy on Swan Street for a pre meal drink. This pub was originally called ‘The Swan’, an old coaching Inn on the Manchester to London Turnpike. Although recently refurbished it’s lost none of its interesting character and is just a short stroll from the restaurant.
Arrangements had been made for us to eat at 8pm, but this was delayed because of an earlier booking, and a subsequent table shuffle. Consequently it was turned 8.45pm before we were seated. The booking was originally for 30 and the staff coped well with our extended group of 36. One member remarked “it’s just like being on a SCoM holiday!” We all agreed the food was delicious. The steaks in particular looked mouth watering!
The evening drew to a close at around 11pm and we made our way out into the ‘cold and frosty night’! Fortunately the train station was just across the road from the restaurant, and there was plenty of parking spaces nearby for those of us driving, (after de-icing windscreens)!!
Ruth and Tosh you did us proud once again! A BIG thanks for all your hard work organising the evening. I’m sure we’re all looking forwards to the next culinary delight, the ‘Manchester Curry Night’ in February
