MY ADVENTURE IN SPAIN (Continued from November)

Reporter: Wendy Barlow

Following Christine's story in last month's newsletter I have written a little of our adventure. After enviously watching my intrepid friends Julie, Chris, & Paul, starting their 12 hr walk in the Sierra Nevada. Myself and Phil who kindly stayed with me for company decided to do a little walk which I could do with boot and crutches down a steep hill to the river, on the climb back we realised that Trevelez was the village where they specialised in jambon, hence wasps decided to attack us on the way back up, so a visit to the pharmacy was required. We then had a lovely afternoon enjoying the views that surrounded us in the comfort of a typical mountainside bar, until the wanderers returned.

The next day we started our journey down the mountain when we were flagged down and found we were in the middle of the Spanish equivalent to the Tour de France. How exciting to see hundreds of cyclists whizzing around the bends. Eventually we arrived at our lovely Villa at Duchessa on the Costa Del Sol. Thanks to Paul's input of finding this property which was our base for the next 4 days. From there we did Gibraltar, Cesares, Gaucin, and Caminito del Rei which was a fabulous experience. All of this with a broken ankle, thanks to my lovely friends who helped me to have a fabulous holiday.

Our journey back to the airport went well until we tried to find the car hire then it went a little wrong but thankfully just made it in enough time to check in. Phil unfortunately was booked on his return flight with Monarch so had to get home with another airline.

A Good time was had by all. Looking forward to the next walking holiday hopefully with no broken bones.
