Val d'Isère Instruction Holiday December 2016 My First Holiday With SCoM

Reporter: Andrew Wallwork

OVERALL *****
Great holiday with great tuition from English tutors and wonderfully friendly, helpful and inspirational SCoM members.

HOTEL OVERALL (CHAMPS AVALIN) **

HOTEL FACILITIES *
Tiny cramped bar, sometimes the plumbing could only provide luke warm showers.

HOTEL STAFF *****
Amazingly helpful and happy staff.

HOTEL FOOD *****
Vegetarian option - on the first night,
The main meal had too much salt so I and a fellow veggie asked for Less salt and guess what? - the chef was only too happy to oblige.

HOTEL ROOM **

HOTEL BEDS ****
Surprisingly comfortable despite being very basic, my advice - do not to look under sheet covering the mattress!

SKIING TUITION *****
Scott’s tuition was excellent. He was totally focused on identifying and improving our skiing technique and I felt my skill level and confidence improve significantly over the week.

ON PISTE CONDITIONS *****
More people on the slopes over the weekend, but wonderfully deserted at other times meaning that you could really let the skis run - my ski tracker recorded maximum speed of 59.5 mph - and yes that was a bit Scary! Maximum distance in one day 21 miles with 5 hours and 40 minutes of skiing.

OFF PISTE ****
Variable conditions - but Scott did manage to find some lovely powdery stuff.

SCoM MEMBERS *****
Everyone was ready to share their experience and help me as a new member of the Club. Ruth and Tosh were particularly friendly - and guided us round the resort in the afternoon with great confidence.
