Despite little response, three generations of Fildes’, Phil Hayward and two doggies, set off from Braithwaite at approx 10.30am for the Causey Pike alternative walk.
Crossing Stoneycroft Gill via a short cut was tricky and the relentless scramble up Ellas Crag to Rowling End was definitely steeper than it was forty years ago! We lingered for quite a while on Causey Pike summit, took pictures, soaked up some rays and scanned the Newlands skyline for the main group....... ....... but assumed they were probably scoffing Steve’s Eccles Cakes by Dalehead Tarn!
After a while, we made our way over Scar Crags and down to Sail pass, over Outerside and Barrow, returning to Braithwaite at approx 4.45pm, where we caught up with a few of our members.
Really sorry to have missed the cakes & tea at Little Town Farm, but we were reluctant to leave the tops as the views were astounding!
We rounded off the day with a super meal at the Royal Oak in Braithwaite. (Dogs allowed in the pub before 6pm)
