Early Summer Walks 2014 - Paddling On The Dee! - August 9th 2014

Reporter: Andrea Taylor

We first took to Kayaking whilst on holiday in Turkey and the Maldives, and so whilst chatting to Brian & Janet who suggested a canoe / kayak taster paddling down the river Dee Nr Chester we were soon booked on a trip.

We were joined by some lovely like minded ski club friends. We rendezvoused at a riverside car park just outside of Chester where we were picked up by minibus by the organising company and driven 5 miles upstream. We then picked up either a 2 person Canadian canoe where each person had a single paddle, or a single person Kayak with a double paddle. We were given some initial instruction and a life jacket and then let loose to independently paddle down river back to the car park.

Having got the feel for our kayaks and without any mishaps! We set off down river. It took about two hours to paddle back, it was bliss to have the river virtually to ourselves. The weather was kind, the occasional fisherman, the odd boat or two and occasional fish jumping out of the water, it was heaven.

We rounded a great day off at the Red House a lovely riverside Italian restaurant in the sunshine.

Many Thanks to Janet & Brian for suggesting a wonderful outing, and maybe one for the social diary for next year?
