10.30am DEP SEATHWAITE CAR PARK
Having all left as one group from above location, we followed the track up GRAINS GILL in strong wind and rain then we all stopped to wait at a path intersection below GREAT END.
Where, due to the weather conditions, Dave Shepherd lead off his splinter group containing myself, Helen Richardson and Christine Fildes.
We continued east to the cross roads under ALLEN CRAGGS, where we had a quick lunch [due to heat loss] then we turned north east over the crags and the hummocks, still with driving wind and rain and then skirted around the north west side of GLARAMARA through LOOKING STEADS and finally intersected the path, involving careful navigation by Dave Shepherd, until we came upon HIND GILL, which we followed and finally made our way slowly down a steep and difficult descent back to our starting point at Seathwaite Farm; arriving back at 4.30pm.
We then returned to our accommodation for a hot shower and tea to meet up with the whole group, or so we thought, at 7.30pm at the Middle Ruddings Hotel. We arrived to find no trace of the Scafell main party, who arrived back much later due to various factors; seeing much more of the lake district than at first anticipated!!
It was a great weekend, well organised by David Miller and thanks to Dave Shepherd for his on the spot navigation.
