I contacted Ruth before setting off for the cycle ride, fully expecting the event to be cancelled due to heavy rain, but was told it was still on.
We arranged to meet at the Snowdrop Café in Grasslands Nursery, Lower Peover where we met earlier this year. The Café is a regular meeting point for cyclists touring the Cheshire country lanes and quite a few of them braved the weather.
I was not keen on cycling through puddles covering road gullies or getting showered by passing motorists.
I started from Rostherne again and cycled through Tatton Park avoiding the A50 where possible.
Arriving at the Snowdrop Café 11:30am, I noticed construction work was taking place. I was told a driver had pressed the wrong pedal and smashed into the café. (She was OK fortunately). I recognised a disabled cyclist, who was there on my last visit, and well done to him!
Seven of us turned up, Ruth Bacci and Paul Latham arrived at 12.15pm after cycling up Mow Cop, training for a Triathlon, Val arrived shortly afterwards. Three others came by car for a chat and refreshments. It was good to see them.
The conversation was mainly about the 2024 European Triathlon Championships in Vichy France the following week. Ruth was a member of Team GB and she did very well in her age group! Well done, Ruth!
I left early, just in case my dogs thought I’d abandoned them. But Low and Behold! The sun decided to show itself on the way back to Rostherne.
Thanks for organising this event again, Ruth. It was good to have an excuse to get out on my bike! (On reflection, I quite enjoyed the challenge).
