Fly On The Wall, Committee Meeting April 2021

Reporter: Bluebottle, aka Tom Russell

The agenda for this meeting was disrupted slightly due to initial problems with our meeting software which was refusing to admit committee members waiting in the internet “Lounge”, but this was soon sorted out and we all settled into our places on the screens, with me clinging tightly to the (virtual) wall.

It was mentioned that some of our members had been skiing at the Chill Factore, noting that it was relatively quiet due to the reduced numbers admitted. As the facility has changed owners during lockdown, the Club needs to renegotiate SCoM members’ access terms with the new management.

Last year’s social programme was decimated by the various lockdowns, but this year’s somewhat attenuated programme looks, at the moment, as though it will go ahead, although this is obviously dependent on potentially changing Coronavirus rules. We’re still looking for a speaker for the AGM, and details should be available in the next newsletter.

There was a good response to the member surveys regarding recent and future holidays. In the survey of 2019/2020 holidays the Val d'Isère VIP chalets were well regarded, where VIP staff were rated as “fantastic”, but the St Christoph hotel didn’t fare quite so well, with dissatisfaction about the food, the queuing required to get it and restaurant seating.

A good majority of members indicated they would be prepared to pay a deposit for any holidays announced in the next few weeks/months, but these would obviously be subject to any Covid-19 rules extant at the time.

The committee are actively looking at holiday options for the next season whilst also trying to anticipate what travel restrictions or conditions may be in place; details will be released as soon as possible.
