Fly On The Wall, Committee Meetings July & August 2020

Reporter: Rick Mayers

Hi Club members.

It seems to be such a long time since we have been able to ski… the season was cut short and the terrible events that followed, more so for some than others and our hearts go out to those people.

On a more positive note, even though some areas are still in lockdown we’re able to start skiing together on a social basis, with many of the indoor and outdoor facilities now open. However, we do want encourage our members to get their skis waxed and go for a ski, we won’t be organising any club events for the foreseeable future until there is more guidance for organised groups gathering. So please support your local centre if you are able.

The upcoming holidays are generally fully booked, but there may be places available, please check the website for further information.

With respect to the organisation of the holidays for next season, mainly in respect of the Covid-19 restrictions, procedures, etc. as a committee we will monitor the situation and closer to the departure dates we assess the latest requirements and seek guidance from the tour operators and contact all members attending the holiday with any specific news. As you all will appreciate, it’s a fluid situation at the moment, but let’s hope it changes for the better in time for the forthcoming season.

There is some bad news, maybe for some but not others. We have decided that we cannot organise any club socials, including the Christmas meal due to the current Covid-19 restrictions. The committee are as disappointed as everyone, if there is any light at the end of the tunnel closer to November, we will try and organise an impromptu evening out, only if guidelines allow.

The final item is the arrangements for the next AGM to be held in October. Again the arrangements for the event will be hampered by Covid-19 and the restrictions for groups gathering. This is also a disappointment as we had lined up two members of the committee to talk about their recent trip to the Antarctic. However, with the use of modern technology, we are glad to tell you that we are still going ahead with a virtual online meeting and we will still be having a presentation showing the exploits of the duo's polar expedition.
