On my 3rd Instruction Week with TDC the penny is finally dropping!
“Extend, Rotate, Absorb!” was our mantra from Joe whose excellent instruction, drilling on piste then applying off-piste really improved our skiing.
Roy, Brian, Paul, David and I were keen to ski off-piste and despite only limited snow cover, Joe took us to several areas of untracked snow. However it meant hiking over rocks and sometimes hitting them, so my skis needed serious attention on return. The highlight was a traverse into the Lavachet bowl, reasonable powder followed by the skin up and out, with Lac du Chevril behind.
It was a really intensive week, Eat, Ski, Eat, Sleep, Repeat, as our group practised the new skills from the morning instruction session into afternoon skiing with friends. My knees were really sore by the Saturday, so took a few hours off to try and photograph the Ladies’ Downhill race, marred by shutter lag and racing speed!
Rosie’s bar became our après ski venue, where the Castleford lads introduced others to the Erdinger Pour, with Paul demonstrating how to do it with eyes closed!
TDC and holiday organisation were excellent, only let down by the trek between terminals in Geneva and hotel issues over 2 sittings for dinner and cramped bar.
Many thanks to David and other organisers, I’ll be booking next year to hopefully extend my skiing into my 80’s ....
