Golf Event, Friday June 27th 2014

By John Day

The annual ski club golf day was held again at Knutsford Golf Club, a popular choice from previous years due to its idyllic location adjacent to Tatton Park and the exceptional quality of the catering, for which golf clubs are not generally renowned.

Nine golfers arrived on a disappointingly drizzly Friday afternoon which had been preceded by weeks of virtually continuous sunshine - good news for the grass but not for us. On the promise of John Day's forecast that it was going to clear up through the afternoon we teed off. The quality of the golf would best be called mixed and not helped by deteriorating conditions. By the 9th hole the promise a gourmet meal got the better of us and we abandoned the golf and made for the club house for a welcome drink and a wonderful dinner of poached salmon followed by strawberries.

The golf was won by Jane Fairclough, an exceptional round of golf under the given conditions.

We look forward to next year’s golf day, although there is consideration of simply becoming a dining society instead!
