The first meeting of the new year took place at Alan Brown's house on a cold evening. Committee members included Alan, Ian, myself, Janet, Christine and David.
After an initial discussion about everyone’s skiing activities this season and a look at Caroline’s trophy for ski racing (very impressive 3D glass trophy with a skier descending a route), we kick started the meeting at 7.30 prompt.
The agenda was a heavy one with lots of updates from Alan and Ian about Snowsport England and Northwest Ski Federation relationships. Our aim has always been to keep a good relationship going with these organisations in order to promote the club and maybe get some new members along the way. Ian is looking at setting up some "Go board Go ski" sessions via Snowsport England with funding from them for local business organisations where we would attend. Our aim is to get people interested in SCOM. Any volunteers who want to get involved in skiing or just talking to these individuals have a word with one of the committee. More information will follow on this.
Janet provided some great information about the club finances for the year to date and at the moment we are in profit by a small amount, including monies saved from the new E-newsletter, which means we have money available to provide the usual Chill Factore lessons next autumn. Janet also provided a summary of holiday income and spending so we could see in more detail where we have gained and lost income, and decide how any surplus should be used for the benefit of members.
Following our away day meeting last year we have all been providing detailed information about various roles and what’s involved for succession planning. Janet provided a very detailed process for the membership procedure and how we control it all.
As always discussions include the holidays which are very popular with late 2013/2014 getting booked. The status is as follows:
Val TDC training week still some places available for this excellent holiday so get booking. Feedback from last year was very good. I would add that I have just spent a day in Tignes with TDC instructor, Rory, and he was excellent.
Sauze - still a few places in the round hotel but be quick.
Courchevel fully booked, but Dave has a reserve list going.
On the topic of holidays, comments welcome, do we need smaller more upmarket options in addition to main holidays? The committee will spend some time over the next few months looking at this for 2015. Andrew and myself will canvas opinions on the Meribel holiday.
In the meantime lots of things to look forward to such as end of season party, lakes walk, golf, bike rides, Summer walks, and Barbeque, watch out for info on these.
Thanks to Alan and Caroline for hosting this and providing cake and nibbles.
That’s it from your committee!
