Fly On The Wall At The Last Committee Meeting

Reporter: Ian Harford, 15 October 2009

It was a bit like the morning after the night before. After a good AGM at Chill Factore with a chance to meet with friends and discuss ski plans, we were back with a bump last week - back to the business of the Committee and details still to be sorted for the coming year.

Despite the best efforts of the retiring Treasurer there were niggling issues still with the bank about signatures - a not unimportant matter as the cheque for the January Sauze d'Oulx holiday has to be paid shortly! Friday evening speakers too had still to be finalised; and the Christmas meal venue and arrangements needed completing for the next Newsletter.

It was good to hear that the September training courses with Giles Lewis had been a great success and we decided in principle to repeat these next year.

The discussion at the AGM had given us a clear steer. Meetings were being set up by Alan with some of our partner bodies like Chill Factore and Snowsport England to build up our programme; and Dave's plans to trial a mentoring scheme for new members joining skiing holidays were quickly agreed. All exciting stuff!

The Development Plan and the Skills Questionnaire, raised at the Members' Forum after the AGM, received further attention as we considered new ideas for the Club. But time was slipping away. We needed a special meeting for this wide ranging topic and agreed on 26th October. This would be about fleshing out the Plan and agreeing priorities and realistic timetables.

We have to concentrate on key issues now if the Club is to grow and the coming year will hopefully see changes and new developments. As we settled down at the end of the meeting to Jane's delicious scones and biscuits we noticed the trail on the carpet left behind her small terrier. Over the two hours he had tenaciously dismembered a whole leather slipper. If we can show the same determination over the next 12 months, ther'll be no stopping SCoM in 2010!
