Ski Club of Manchester, Late Summer Walks 2024

Walk 2, Sunday 8th September.

Leader: Dave Miller

The second walk of the weekend will be a circular route from Clapham eastwards into Crummack Dale .

This will be a moderate walk of about 10 miles and around 1320 feet of ascent. This should be well within the capabilities of fit and active walkers. The walk should take around 5 hours depending how long we spend sight seeing, eating, and of course walking.

Meeting time is 10:00 to start walking at 10:15.

The meeting point is the New Inn car park; grid reference SD 746 691, Post Code LA2 8HH.

This will be a full day out on the fells so you will need to bring enough food and drink for the day. Good walking shoes or boots are recommended and enough variety of clothing to cope with the English climate.

The route will be eastwards from the north end of the village along well made lanes to the vicinity of Austwick and then half north up to Wharfe. From here a walled lane will bring us northwards up to the impressive Moughton Scar. Walking north west along the top of the scar will bring us to Beggar's Stile where we will turn south down into Crummack Dale. Continuing south towards Austwick we will pick up a footpath past Norber that will bring us back onto the lane into Clapham. There will be an opportunity for refreshments at the end of the walk at The Old Sawmill Cafe.
