Ski Club of Manchester Spring walk, A circular walk from Congleton to Mow Cop Castle (and back)

Sunday April 12th 2026

Leader: Joy Parsons

We will start from Joy's house (Boundary Lane, Congleton) between 10.00 and 10.15 for a 10:30 start, walking from the door.

There's plenty of parking in Boundary Lane and good facilities at the house.

The walk is about 9-10 miles in length involving a gentle ascent of 900ft over fields, tracks, canal towpath and some roads.

The fields can be very muddy and good boots are essential.

We will have our picnic up on Mow Cop, home of Primitive Methodism, hopefully enjoying views across the Cheshire plains and several counties.

We will descend on tracks and roads to Scholar Green where we get onto the Macclesfield canal taking a diversion to The Horseshoe pub at Newbold Astbury before returning to Joy's where we can relax and enjoy self service teas and a rest. Cakes and tea food will be welcome and there's plenty of sitting space in and out.

If you are interested in joining the walk, please contact Joy Parsons.

There will be a pair of skis outside the house — You can't miss them!
